DETAILS & CRAFT

Working with both clay and fabric lets me design the ceramic details alongside the textile pieces they become part of—from a button at the centre of a cushion to the ceramic elements of a lamp or clock.

THE CERAMIC BUTTON

The button at the centre of In Bloom is handmade, finished with a matte white glaze and fired in a kiln. It draws the fabric inward, creating the folds across the face of the cushion.

Making the button myself means its shape and finish are considered as part of the cushion’s design.

THE TEXTILE DETAILS

Satin gives In Bloom its sheen, while the gathered centre shapes its surface. At each corner, long fabric ties are knotted into bows.

The cutting, sewing and assembly are all part of my making process, with attention to how the cushion holds its shape and how the ties fall.

CLAY AND FABRIC

I began with ceramics and later learned to sew. Bringing the two together gave me a way to work with colour, shape and texture within the same object.

That combination continues through the collection, taking a different form in each piece.
